Lawn Fertiliser for Australian Lawns
The right fertiliser at the right time makes the difference between a struggling lawn and a lush, green one. Here's what you need to know.
Fertilising by Grass Type
Couch Grass
High nitrogen feeder. Fertilise every 6 weeks in growing season. Tolerates frequent application.
Peak season: Sep–Mar
Buffalo (Sir Walter, Palmetto)
Moderate feeder. Avoid over-fertilising — causes excessive thatch. Every 8 weeks.
Peak season: Oct–Apr
Kikuyu
Aggressive grower, responds well to nitrogen. Monthly during peak growth.
Peak season: Sep–Apr
Fescue / Ryegrass (cool-season)
Fertilise in autumn and spring, avoid summer heat. Light applications.
Peak season: Mar–May, Aug–Oct
